I am proud to be a used car salesman. I think it is one of the more honourable careers one could have if you compare it to the professions I have had to encounter over the last three months. Let me explain, I recently bought a house, by default really, because the agent involved contributed nothing but ineptitude, lies and a singular lack of any sales ability whatsoever. Does anybody out there know why they are paid so much for so little ? This was followed by an equally inept conveyancer, who charged a suitably impressive fee for absolute non performance, and a whole bank who lost the title deeds [ for both the property I was selling and the one I was buying !! ]. How about tradesmen ? surely they are more honourable ? eight out of ten electricians didn't pitch for their appointments, six out of ten builders, five out of eight plumbers. The ones that did pitch were so disparate in their quotes for it to be laughable. [ the electrical company I chose for a certificate of compliance charged R13000 then closed its doors and I am still waiting for the certificate ! ] The previous owner of the property, a so called man of honour, had been stealing his electricity from his neighbour since 1989, as well as amassing arrear rates of over R100,000. The lawyer I used to send the previous owner a letter charged R2800 for about six lines, need I go on ????

Me saying ‘ one little old lady owner from new' sounds positively innocent compared to whats out there, doesn't it ?

On a more serious note, I would like to point out that all potential buyers are invited to have any car tested by as many experts as they deem necessary before committing to a sale.
