I was saddened to learn of the death of a true car enthuisiast and top motoring journalist, Harvey Thomas, this week. A gentleman of rare qualities, I had the pleasure of supplying him with his motoring needs for many years. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. Once again I thank the Cape region for their support. From a dealers point of view there is nothing better than referral sales, for most of the sale has already been done for you. We probably average two sales per month to the Cape, which has grown into a whole community of Executive car owners. It is even more remarkable that the business is formed on trust, indeed, the first time the client sees his new car is usually two weeks after he has paid for it. To date, no client has been dissatisfied with his purchase, which either means that we have a realistic approach to business or that we are charging too little for our fine cars !!! Every one would like to be a retailer when it comes to selling their own pride and joy, and the potential is perhaps ten percent more than a dealer would offer you but private sales are filled with potential nightmares. Lets start with the hijack risk. Are you happy to invite strangers to view, usually in the evening and take them for a test drive ? how about spending one, maybe two days at police clearance ? wait the two, maybe three weeks for the potential buyer to arrange finance ? Accept a cheque that looks like its bank guaranteed ? Spend another couple of days at licencing accepting dreadful service ?. There are professional teams out there, just waiting for the right opportunity, at risk is your car, your house, your life, all for ten percent. My advice would be to leave it to the professionals. |
