Sean feeney is a classic car collector and dealer. His life long dream to make a business out of his passion became reality 5 years ago when he left the corporate world and bought a dealership with over 25 years of history in this specific field. His collection of rare and collectable cars, including a 30's Jaguar and his most prized Aston Martin DB6, purchased over the previous 20 years, had to go to create sufficient start up capital for the venture. It was a decision he wishes he had taken much earlier in his career. Classics and collectables can broadly be described as vehicles 30 years and older. They are from the golden eras of motoring history, where ‘planned obsolescence' had not been thought of yet by the mighty corporations of mass production. They belong to a far more frivolous and romantic period in time, and reflect their specific periods very positively. No better example can be made than the 30's and the ultimate decade, the 60's. Cars built during these golden years command far higher prices today than any other decades in automotive history. Sean Feeney believes, contrary to the general belief that all used car dealers are failed lawyers, that he is in a most rewarding business that brings happiness to both parties concerned . He explains; ‘ what other investment has such reward ? it is an investment you can use, enjoy, whilst still giving you a handsome return year after year. And the rewards are plain to see if you look at current classic car values. Vehicles I sold 5 years ago have doubled in value, generally speaking. There is no down side to buying a classic, other than getting involved in restoration projects, which should only be attempted if you are committed to the vehicle for the rest of your life, because restoration cost far outstrips market values every time, especially in a country with a very limited choice of restoration specialists.' |
