It was sad, in some way, to see the end of Heritage cars after so many years of exporting our finest classics, and as soon as I can think in what way it was sad, I will let you know. My feelings on decimating the once healthy classic car numbers must sound like a stuck record now, and current owners of classics have acquired a fixed wry smile on their faces as the remaining collectables increase in value, to the extent that they are more expensive here, than probably anywhere else in the world. Don't think for one minute, that it is isolated to classic cars, its bikes, boats, aeroplanes, antiques, furniture, doctors, accountants. If it was reciprocal, it wouldn't be so dire, but the government has prevented any cars being imported into this country, ostensibly to protect the local manufacturers, for years, and there does not seem to be a difference between a cheap Japanese import and a classic car, in their eyes. A great pity, because there is nothing finer than driving a perfectly preserved old car in, questionably, the finest environment in the world. I pray [ often ] that the Rand stays at its currently strong levels so that we may continue to enjoy what few classics are left.
