Very few cars that are 20 years old or more can rightly claim to be original. The odds are stacked against them really. Dodging around the scourge of our roads, the taxis, make it almost an impossibility, and we often forget that they were contemporary cars of their time, with little foresight as to their future value and collectability. Which is why, when they do appear, that they are respected for their achievements. It may be a sad reflection of my life, but it turns me on when these time warp cars resurface. There are many of them on this showroom floor as we speak.

There is no substitute for originality. The finest restoration in a South African context, could not hope to come close. True collectors only chase original cars, and the obsession to put your mark on a classic is a dangerous route to follow. Mutton dressed as lamb comes to mind. An old timer should be allowed to have faded paint, distressed leather, a patina of age. Its called character. If anything, the priority should be to keep it mechanically fit, and the rest will look after itself in the metal- friendly environment they reside in.

We have original classics to suit every pocket. Starting from as little as R49000. The price, however, is not the issue, because every single classic you can care to name, will never be worth less than it currently is. As the 21 st century washes all makes and models into the same melting pot of efficiency and economies of scale, relish the models from yesteryear, well built, designed to last, individual and unique. Fixed deposits are all well and good but a moving asset has to be a more pleasurable option.
