Scottsdale, Arizona – On 24 January 2026, a bespoke one-of-one Stars & Steel-inspired Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X sold for USD $2.6 million (approximately R41 718 687) at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. This unique Corvette is based on the fastest American production car to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Charity Mission: Tunnel to Towers Foundation
One hundred percent of the hammer price will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organisation dedicated to providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and families of fallen first responders, building custom smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans, and supporting homeless veterans. The initiative aligns with the Stars & Steel collection, created in honour of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Scott Bell, Vice President, Global Chevrolet, said: “To honour those who serve, Chevrolet created a 1-of-1 edition of America’s quickest production car, the Corvette ZR1X. We’re proud to know the winning bid will support first responders and veterans in need.”

Winning Bid and Bespoke Design
The Corvette ZR1X was purchased by Rick Hendrick, Chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. The car was hand-painted by General Motors’ Design Fabrication specialists in Dark Satin Steel, with distinctive Santorini Blue accents on the brake calipers, interior, and carbon aero rear wing.
The purchase includes an exclusive “Build Your Own Engine” experience, allowing Hendrick to personally assemble the twin-turbo V8 engine powering the ZR1X’s rear wheels. Additional perks include the first Corvette delivery at the GM Design Dome and curated memorabilia.
Turning Performance into Purpose
Chevrolet and General Motors have partnered with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for over 12 years, raising more than USD $11.6 million for veterans. Barrett-Jackson charity auctions have also contributed to this mission for 15 years, bringing Chevrolet’s total charitable contributions from Corvette auctions to USD $15.5 million.
Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of Tunnel to Towers Foundation, said: “This incredible gift will help us continue to support the families of fallen heroes and enable injured veterans to live with dignity and independence.”
Legacy of American Performance
Craig Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, added: “The Chevrolet Corvette has represented American performance and engineering for over 70 years. This one-of-one Stars & Steel-inspired Corvette ZR1X offers a rare opportunity to own an extraordinary collector car while contributing to a meaningful cause.”
